JAVAFX - Campo de rótulo não atualizando no manipulador de eventos de ação - java, javafx, fxml

Eu sou um novato em JAVAFX. Eu tenho um formulário de login no aplicativo JavaFx. Ele possui um campo Rótulo definido no arquivo fxml, cujo valor de texto é definido após a autenticação com mensagens diferentes. Por favor, veja o código abaixo.

A chamada actiontarget.setText(..) não funciona quando o usuário é válido. mas funciona se o usuário inserir credenciais inválidas. Informe-me o que há de errado com o código.

Eu acredito que seu problema está em usar Thread.sleep você está interrompendo o thread da interface do usuário, o que impossibilita a atualização da exibição.

Tente usar Task (https://docs.oracle.com/javafx/2/threads/jfxpub-threads.htm) e defina o texto no onSucceeded e onFailed.
